About Alquaraouiyine mosque

If you are planning to visit the 1200 years old city and want to enjoy your trip, make sure to write down a list of the most recommended places to visit. Planning a trip to Fez is quite different from planning trips to cities like Paris or London, so adjust your expectations about what you are going to see there because there are lot of things to see about the traditions and lifestyle of locals.. Make sure your plan includes a visit to the Quaraouiyine Mosque in Fez, the second largest mosque in Morocco and other historical monuments as well. After settling in Fez as a refugee from the holy city of Al-Qayrawan in Tunisia, Fatima Al-Fihri thought of investing the money she inherited from her father, in building a suitable mosque for the Tunisian community in Fez, therefore, she founded the mosque of Quaraouiyine in 857 which became, later on, the sacred places in Morocco. As you enter the mosque, you will be attracted by a pair of well designed pavilions used for ablutions at one of the corners of the courtyard, they were built in 16th century by Saadians. Later on and exactly in the 17th century, three fountains were built following the design of Alhambra in Granada, Spain. Some historians said that two fountains (small ones) were constructed by Spanish craftsmen.Watch out! Only muslims are allowed to enter the mosque.
